This year marks 30 years for the Lanesboro Art Gallery – now a part of Lanesboro Arts. In the 1990s, the Cornucopia Gallery began showing artwork from the regions many talented creators. Later, that effort would evolve into the present-day galleries at Lanesboro Arts. Over the last three decades, hundreds of artists have shown their work in solo and group shows in the Exhibition Gallery or sold their pieces in the Sales Gallery.

Lou Shields continues the tradition of American music with a solo-performance that pulls in styles of days-gone-by. Using his 1931 National Resonator Guitar or Banjo accompanied by a unique front porch style of foot percussion and harmonica, he uses his voice as an extension of the past. Lou carries a full sound during live performances while sharing stories, thoughts and experiences with the audience. He has toured throughout the United States and Europe for over 15 years and has released 8 full-length albums and 13 EP’s.

Learn the fundamentals of rock climbing as you work to reach your climbing goals on our 30 foot-high, indoor wall with routes to suit every level of climber. No prior experience required, as our indoor wall offers over 35 routes ranging from beginner to expert. The 30 foot wall has various features including multiple overhangs, cracks and a chimney. Eagle Bluff Staff will be there to provide belay services and ensure safety and success. Climbers of all ages are welcome.

Eagle Bluff will provide harnesses and helmets. Climbing shoes will be available if desired, but tennis shoes work fine. Personal climbing shoes are allowed, but please refrain from bringing in any other outside equipment (i.e. harnesses, chalk, belay devices).

In this discussion, Su will discuss with participants the art of revising one’s writing. Through this, participants will be able to be enlightened about the importance of re-visiting and revising one’s work to improve it. For those participating in the reading, there will be a dress rehearsal at the end with Su to prepare for the final Public Reading event on Friday, May 5th.

Basic Foundations of Poetry, Part 2 with Su Hwang @ St Mane Theatre

Join a two-session poetry workshop with Lanesboro Artist-in-Residence Su Hwang on Monday, April 20th from 6-7 p.m. at the St. Mane Theatre.

In this workshop, Su will continue to help others explore the foundations of poetry as well as its process of writing. The group of participants will look at narrative versus lyric poetry to better understand the differences between poetry. Different poetry forms, voice, and style will also be discussed by Su in this workshop in order to help develop individuality of writers; this two-session workshop will wrap up with time for writing prompts, as well.

During the first part of this class, the participants will look at examples of figurative language like metaphors (hey, that’s a simile!), images, line breaks, and sound to better understand their role in poetry. Additionally, there will also be time for writing prompts to help the continuation of ideas.
